Sight is the eye’s perception of an object and light is something that makes vision possible. My work deals with how light affects the eye and how we perceive it. With each one of my paintings I express my own perception of artificial light and its effects in a particular setting. By using vibrant color juxtaposed against a darker background and intermingling thick paint with thin and glossy with matte a spatial “reality” is created that pushes the boundaries as to what is positive and negative space. These different application techniques produce a kind of “implied” space that forces the artificial light to be the primary subject in each painting rather than what it is projected onto.
